How do I get to the lift at Santa Bárbara Castle in Alicante?

To reach the lift leading to St. Barbara’s Castle, go to the area around the municipal beach, Playa de Postiguet. The entrance to the tunnel leading to the lift is located on Avenida de Jovellanos, opposite the beach. A 200-metre underground tunnel separates tourists from the lift entrance. At the beginning of the tunnel, there is a ticket machine where you can purchase a ticket for the lift.

The cost of entry is €2.70, and payment can be made by card or cash. The lift operates during the castle’s opening hours, and the last lift up departs 40 minutes before the fortress closes. The return trip down is possible up to 20 minutes before the castle closes. Please note that animals are not allowed in the lift, with the exception of guide dogs.

The nearest car parks are located near Postiguet Beach and in the centre of Alicante. A good choice is the underground car park at Playa de Postiguet, from which it is only a few minutes’ walk to the entrance to the tunnel leading to the lift. Another option is the municipal car parks in the centre of Alicante, from where you can walk to the lift.
